APAD 63 - bakuteh aka 肉骨茶

Im sure Malaysians (non-Malaysians as well i would think) would not be unfamiliar with Bakuteh. Especially local Chinese - its the pride of local Chinese cuisine. This is because it originated from Malaysia, right here in Klang. And has now gained reputation worldwide for its unique taste (forget what the Singaporeans say!!!)

Anyway, decided to go have Klang Bakuteh with Brother Bear, Moon and Wen Feng on Merdeka Day. How better to celebrate the national day than having the "national food" to us Malaysian Chinese?

We had wanted to go to the one we always frequent since ages ago -

Teluk Pulai (Pottery) Ba Kut Teh

32, Jalan Batai Laut 5, Kawasan 16, Taman Intan, 41300 Klang, Selangor.

Business Hour: 7am-3pm Daily, Closed one day in a month

But sadly when we arrived, the place was already freaking full. This was 10+am!!

So we wanted to try the one behind Teluk Pulai, which was this place which we have not patronised before:

鳳嬌瓦煲肉骨茶 FONG KEOW (POTTERY) BA KU TEH

AddressNo.49, 51, 53, Jalan Batai Laut, Kaw 16 Taman Intan, 41300 Klang, Selangor.

Tel03-33437479, 016-6688606

Business hourMON - SUN 8am-9:30pm

But heck when I saw that they serve seafood ba ku teh i was like wth???? we want our ba ku teh to be prok meat la... nothing else wll do! so we decided to give it a go and head for the "under the bridge" baku teh (橋底肉骨茶) in town centre near the KTM station in Klang. Luckily my GPS was able to bring me there again - I would have gotten lost again since the roads in Klang are being rebuilt and trust me when I say they are in a mess:P

Kedai Makan Seng Huat Ba Ku Teh

ADDRESS: 9, Jln Besar, Klang.

(see reviews by other bloggers here and here)

BUT WHEN WE REACHED THERE, WE WERE TOLD THERE WERE NO MORE PROK....NO MORE 肥肉!BAKUTEH S NOT BAKUTEH IF THERE ARE NO 肥肉!

So again, we left. This time, Brother Bear suggested we try out the place Chia Yaw and Peggy brought us 2 years ago when Brother Bear had a colleague visiting from China. I couldnt recall the name then - though i remember it being hilarious and unusual name.

So off we went and true enough when i saw the name again i burst out laughing haha...see for yourself:

Fei Kay Ba Ku Teh 飛機瓦堡肉骨茶

(1) 25, Jalan Prai Satu, Off Jalan Meru,

41050 Klang, Selangor

Tel: 016-2525599, 019-3125599

Hahaha literally - "Aeroplane Ba Ku Teh"...wth...hahahaha

but the food is nothing as "funny" as the name. In other words, the ba ku teh here is GOOD!!!!

I wont even attempt to describe it in words - I'll let the pics below do the talking. Observe brother bear's various expressions of approval hehe...

At least we had a fulfilling Ba Ku Teh day. Wohoo! Merdeka!

PS: Found this list of Ba Ku Teh shops - Maybe should try them out one day!
